Downtown Chattanooga Restaurant Advice Please

We will be in Chattanooga next weekend and need some advice on some good breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are staying downtown.

We love all types of food but particularly wanted to eat some great local food, you know what Tennessee is known for, not the same old restaurant chains that we can get here in Florida.

Looking forward to all your advice.

Thank you

Okay, here%26#39;s my picks:

The Acropolis (Greek) and Sticky Fingers (Barbeque) - both near Hamilton Place mall.

Mom%26#39;s Italian and the other Sticky Fingers - both downtown.

For a good, no the best, hamburger try

Armandos.

Bluff View Inn (variety) near downtown over looking the river (near the Hunter Museum).

For something different try the dinner cruise aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat.

I hope you enjoy your visit to our little city.

Definately try Mount Vernon Restaurant on Broad St.

A great place for lunch is at the cafe in the Hunter Art Museum. It is operated by the same folks that own Bluff View/Rembrandts, etc. Anyway - it%26#39;s a great place for a sandwich, salad, etc. and they have a terrific balcony overlooking the river where you can sit to enjoy your lunch.

I would also echo the Armando%26#39;s burger recommendation...they are the best!

Another great lunch idea is to walk over the Walnut St. Bridge to Coolidge Park, pick up a sub sandwich from one of the places in the shops facing the carousel (there%26#39;s a great place whose name escapes me at the moment) and have a picnic at the park.

Bea%26#39;s or Mt. Vernon will give you true southern cooking/food (the good ole comfort foods). Mt. Vernon is at the foot of Lookout Mtn. and would be a good place to stop for lunch if you are headed there to see the sights.

Enjoy!

I agree with every suggestion here, except one. Armados is good. Not the best. If you want the best burger go to tubbys on fraizer ave. They have been voted the best hamburger place in chattanooga for like ten years by the citizens of chattanooga!!! Trust me its greasy and fatnin, just like a burger should be. Their fries rock too.

Just curious--is The Loft still around?

No, EddieK, the Loft is no longer with us. Habib closed it down.

Thanks for the info. I never went, but knew people who worked there once upon a time.

years ago we used to visit the green room in the read house hotel. it was always a treat and never disapointed us either. they had a dish that began with a slice of cured ham topped with a fried boned breast of chicken topped with lump crab meat and then covered with a white sauce that i still day dream about. is the restaurant still open and do they have this entre? if not some one ought to. i%26#39;ve got my fingers crossed too!

Well the read house has a new owner. cant remember which chain owns it now. it goes back and forth too much to keep up. They have recently remodeled as well. I dont know if the green room is still there. the best thing to do is call them up!

i did and unfortunately they are no longer a chattanooga destination.
