food downtown and west side

We will be in Nashville, mid January, staying at the Hermitage one night. Any good recommendations for dinner and breakfast? Something that is ';true Nashville'; would be great. We are Northwesterners here on business for the first time and want to experience a little local color. Isn%26#39;t Nashville known for it%26#39;s bbq? thanks.

There is a good barbecue place downtown on Broadway called Jack%26#39;s. Monell%26#39;s is also good, but I believe they%26#39;re only open for breakfast on the weekend--lunch and supper through the week. Pancake Pantry, in Hillsboro Village isn%26#39;t far from downtown and is a very ';Nashville'; place to go. Hope y%26#39;all have a good time!

If you have a car, a Nashville breakfast tradition for many years has been the Loveless cafe, about 13 miles west of town.

As for BBQ, that is strictly personal preference. I see people who argue over BBQ sauce (I%26#39;m a vinegar based fan, myself). My preferences, Jacks, Swetts%26#39;, and although a regional chain, Calhouns for ribs.

If you are looking for BBQ and the true Nashville Experience, go to Jacks on Broadway. It sits amoung all of the honky tonks and bright lights of the city%26#39;s famous street, and serves up some great BBQ for a reasonable price. Go grab some BBQ, then step outside and take your pick from about 10 great bars for live music and drinks. Enjoy.
