Airports there

What is the closest airport to Gatlinburg? Or cheapest?

Thanks

Airports there

Closest airport with jet service is in Knoxville (45min drive)- small market so the prices are high. Chattanooga would be the next closest at about 2.5 hours. Next would be either Atlanta or Nashville and I wouldn%26#39;t pick Atlanta if I didn%26#39;t have to. Nashville or Atlanta would be cheapest but then you would have a 3.5+hr drive to GB

Airports there

Thank You!

I would fly from Milwaukee to one of those.

Unfortunately flying anywhere seems awful expensive right now!

I was thinking of visiting my folks in WV for Christmas and flying there but the airfare is pretty high still.

Tissie I feel your pain,

We are going the first week of January to GB.

The down side is it is almost $600 for our tickets(for 2) from Cleveland to Knoxville(about a 50 min drive to GB) but, the up side for us is that the cabins are way lower at that time of year. So, even though the flight is higher we are looking to get a cabin that is less then 99$ a nite.

Many of the companies and rental agencies as well as private owners will discount at low times of the year.

Not sure of when you were going but it%26#39;s a thought.

PS We flew down in Nov 2 years ago, and the flights were less then $200 per ticket. So, like everything, its going up(but totally worth every penny!)

Thanks Lindy...

Looks like Knoxville is the best/fastest way of getting there.

Do you rent a car? If so how much do they go for?

We usually take vacations in October... perhaps because it seems a little less busy. But this year we thought we might take one earlier like near the end of May or something. But I am not sure how rates will be in May for Gatlinburg.

You didn%26#39;t say where in WI you were flying from. Independence Air is probably the cheapest service into Knoxville. I know they fly out of Chicago. Northwest is probably next cheapest.

Independence Air is hubbed out of Washington DC. I may not should be saying this but you can fly from Washington DC to Charleston WV for less than $50 per person each way. From Washington to Knoxville is about $69 per person each way I think. These rates are around the 19th of Dec. You would still have to get from Wisconsin Tissie to Washington DC but you may want to check it out or even Southwest. Not sure where all they fly from or too.

Hi again Tissie

Yes, we do rent a car,

Personally, with gas prices we don%26#39;t rent big cars or SUVs so I am going through Priceline.

I put in the price I want to pay and then if I%26#39;m not picky about the type of car, then I will get one relatively inexpensively.

I checked yesterday and I can get one for 16 dollars a day. Thats not bad, the published rate is 22!

I know certain airports are hubs and you can get better deals on air, its just for us, that is the best we can do!

Good luck!

PS the drive in from Knoxville is really pretty too!

I like to fly out of Milwaukee because it is closer and not as busy as Chicago O%26#39;Hare.

Southwest flies out of Midway in Chicago with is rather out of the way and not worth the low fairs usually.

When I fly to my parents house I fly US Air because they fly into Clarksburg, WV which is by my parents house. US Air is the only one that flys into Clarksburg. It stinks because I have to go Milwaukee, Chicago, Pittsburg to Clarksburg. I use to go Milwaukee straight to Pittsburg then to Clarksburg but they aren%26#39;t doing that flight anymore.

I will check out the airlines/fare for Knoxsville then.

Good the rental car fees don%26#39;t sound too bad.

I haven%26#39;t tried Priceline before, rather scared me :-)

Is 7 days too long to spend in Gatlinburg???

Well I used Expedia... did a regular search for Milwaukee to Knoxsville and the lowest price was $437??? YIKES...

Then I tried Milwaukee to Las Vegas because that is normally ';really'; cheap and it was about the same $400-$500.... insane!!!
