Trip Report - Hilton Garden In Downtown and Vacation Update

Hi all,

Just wanted to give you an update on our recent vacation to Chattanooga. We were in Nashville two days before and you can read trip report in the Nashville Fourm if interested.

Ok, we got to the Hilton Garden Inn late and it was cold. The hotel was clean and very nice. Definately would stay again. The jacuzzi did not work well but as soon as I let them know they got someone right on it. The front desk did not have very much information on food in town....I was a little disappointed in that..they were trying to tell us to go to the BIG RIVER RESTAURANT down the street...It did not sound too appetizing considering all the great advice I received from yall. It was cold and dark out and very deserted outside. We started walking around because everyone in this forum raved so much about this town and the food. We got stopped two times from this begger woman which I have not been too used to since we live in Florida now not NYC. Anyway I had all these restaurants in my head that everyone had recommended and I was hoping that one would just pop out at us. Anyway, we ended up at the MELLOW MUSHROOM a pizza restaurant...it was the only one with people in it so we thought why not at this point we were hungry and tired. The pizza was really good. Definately recommend for pizza.

Ok, the next day we missed the breakfast at the Hotel and again asked the front desk were there was a good restaurant and she said some place in the Days in several blocks down called thh City Cafe....we did not go...I guess we were leary by then of their choices. Well, we ended up eating cookies and hot chocolate at RUBY FALLS....REALLY COOL PLACE. We also did the cheesy INCLINE RAILROAD....and LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN...They were both fun...I guess you gotta go at least once to them. We got a lot of exercise and fresh air. We went to ROCK CITY at night because they have a beautiful Christmas Light display while you walk around. REALLY AWESOME!!!! The kettle corn was great also...tell the guy there that you heard about it from AVA...He will know what you mean. Anyway, that day we went to one of the recommended lunch places JALAPENOS...SORRY.....NOT VERY GOOD...disappointing. Many of you recommended it highly. The place was not very nice looking either. But you all did recommend STICKEY FINGERS BBQ....AWESOME...DEFINATELY RECOMMEND. They need a place like that in TAMPA. We were hoping to go to Mount Vernons but did not have enough time.

The next morning we ate at the hotel%26#39;s bufet and breakfast....FIRST CLASS....very well done. Hightly recommend.

Great report. I love Rock City. I have lived an hour away for more than twenty years and only went for the first time this year.

Too bad you didn%26#39;t go to the City Cafe. It is a fiftie%26#39;s style diner with good food. It has a juke box and display cases with wonderful looking desserts. We ate there last month after we went to Rock City to see the changing leaves. Be aware that the portions are huge.
