Ok guys, I%26#39;m 21 and i%26#39;m relocating to Nashville in 6 months. I%26#39;m craving the city lights and urban atmosphere. I%26#39;m pretty content on living downtown right off the bat. Anyone have any strong opinions on The Cumberland on Church Street? Also, is downtown living all it%26#39;s cracked up to be?

I moved from atlanta to downtown nashville.
The cumberland is a nice place, a little pricey, excellent location. I would advise you that the city has installed some ';audio traffic signals'; for the blind that make a very loud beep sound everytime the light changes colors. It is very annoying just to walk by it and it is just a few feet from an entire side of the cumberland. I would not make any long term contract until you investigate this noise, espically at 10 pm at night.
I have read some reviews on this place at apartmentratings.com and apartmentreviews.net.
There are several sites that review apartments and have reviews by former residents.
I also advise you to go to apartmentguide.com and check out capitol towers apartments, where i live. It is 2 block north of the cumberland and is 625 including utilities but a parking space is 100 extra. They don%26#39;t give a referral fee so i don%26#39;t have any ulterior motives for telling you this.
Downtown living is great, i walk to the clubs in a few minutes, don%26#39;t even need to own a car.

Thanks man. I will surely consider these traffic signal beeps. Strange.
you might be ok if you get an apartment on the East side of the building, however that overlooks all the popular country bars and at 3am when the bars close, you will be hearing some very drunk people doing ';rebel yells'; but that is usually on fri/sat during the summer.
They are redoing church street with new sidewalks, street signs, paving etc so next time i%26#39;m up there i will see if there is any audio traffic signals on the east side. They are very annoying, i had to move to the opposite side of my building cause of them.
Maybe you could get an escape clause in your lease.
I was at the cumberland today and it appears they have turned down the volume on the traffic signals i was telling you about. They just installed them 2 weeks ago and maybe they have gotten so many complaints that they turned them down.
Great. Thanks for the update.
